About the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Before her murder in 1985, Dian Fossey wrote a book called Gorillas in the Mist, in which she chronicled her 18-year relationship with these gentle creatures. The book was later dramatized in the popular movie of the same name. From the book and the movie, people around the world learned of the mountain gorillas and of the threat to their survival due to poaching and human encroachment into their habitat. To continue Dian Fossey's work, a fund was established in her name.

Membership in the Fund By joining the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, you will be kept up to date on the latest gorilla news, research projects, and opportunities to help save the gorillas. Membership money supports research efforts and antipoaching patrols. Student: $10, Individual: $30, Family: $50. For more information, write to one of the addresses below.

Adopt-a-Gorilla-Program By adopting a gorilla, you will support the protection of and research on that gorilla for a year. You will receive a certificate, a photograph, and reports on your gorilla from the researchers at the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda. For more information, write to one of the addresses below.

Sister Schools Program Only a small number of children in this part of Africa can attend school beyond elementary school. It is very expensive and few families can afford the costs. There are numerous opportunities to help, including raising money for a scholarship fund to allow secondary school students to participate in workshops. The workshops teach students how their country benefits from gorillas and their mountain home. For more information, contact the London address below.
