The Everglades is home to a unique collection of mammals, reptiles and amphibians, birds, and plants. Many people worry that the destruction of the Everglades may ultimately lead to the extinction of many species. In fact, there are already 14 endangered species--those close to becoming extinct--and 9 threatened species--those close to becoming endangered--living in the Everglades. Photo: Atala butterfly.
