Teachers Needed to Test Materials
CET
Mon Sep 27 2004

The NASA-sponsored Classroom of the Future program is seeking teachers to help test some award-winning science curriculum supplements.

The effort is part of the Classroom of the Future’s ongoing evaluation of these materials. By committing to help in this evaluation, teachers receive the materials for free, a tremendous value.  All that’s required is that teachers use the supplements in their classrooms and then provide data on their effectiveness. The unit chosen must be grade appropriate for the teacher as well. Researchers will provide participants with a pretest and posttest to have students complete along with consent forms to be administered.

To learn more about the supplement, CLICK on the links below.

Astronomy Village: Investigating the Universe®. Students explore the latest in interstellar happenings through 10 multimedia investigations. Grades 9-12

Astronomy Village: Investigating the Solar System®. Students play real-world scientists in seven investigations as they search for life in the solar system or probe the mysteries of Pluto. Grades 5-7

BioBLAST®. At a simulated lunar research facility, learners design and test a plant-based, self-contained life-support system that can sustain a crew of six for three years. Grades 9-12

ExoQuest®. Does extraterrestrial life exist? Students try to answer that question as they learn contemporary astrobiology in virtual journeys reflecting past and future NASA missions. Grades 10-12

This evaluation is part of ongoing work conducted by researchers at the Classroom of the Future. This NASA-sponsored program works to transform NASA scientific practice into K-12 educational experiences. Researchers at the Classroom of the Future work directly with NASA scientists and engineers to develop science, technology, engineering, and math scenarios that engage students in authentic NASA science and engineering. Combining these real-world scenarios with a design-based research approach, the team builds leading educational models for the design of educational experiences. Through educational testbeds, the center applies infrastructure and multimedia technologies to these educational models for industry, academic, and federal partners. This combination of design-based and market-driven R&D allows for the investigation of important issues that can benefit the educational community.
