COTF Takes Part in Gaming Careers Symposium
for African-Americans Todd Borghesani, director of special projects at the NASA-sponsored Classroom of the Future, was a panelist recently at a symposium that promoted careers and development opportunities in electronic gaming for African-Americans. The Focus on Design Conference was held Oct. 6-9 in Baltimore. It brought together technology and electronic gaming leaders from around the country. The final day of the conference featured the Digital Arts Technology Symposium. Borghesani represented the Classroom of the Future on the panel and used the opportunity to highlight NASA’s educational research agenda. He covered a number of points:
Joining Borghesani on the panel were senior individuals from the University of Baltimore; representatives of the Prince Charles School District, which includes the McKinley School in the District of Columbia, a school that uses advanced technology to teach; Bob Bates, a renowned game development author; Mario Armstrong, technology advocate for the Baltimore mayor’s office and host of the technology show, The Digital Spin, on WEAA-FM 89.7 in Baltimore, which also broadcast the symposium; representatives from Sony Online Entertainment; Nichol Bradford, global brand manager for Vivendi Universal Games, which markets video games tied to major film properties; representatives from Blue Heat, a leading developer of games for mobile platforms; the creator of Spike! TV; and Joe Saulter, CEO of Entertainment Arts Research, an Atlanta-based 3D graphics and gaming company, and the foremost authority on using the Unreal® gaming engine. FocusOnDesign™ (www.focusondesign.org) is a collaborative project of partnering design and arts organizations whose vision is “to create a more culturally conscious and sensitive design community, to expand the horizons and influences of the designer; to seek out and explore new directions in design, to introduce cutting-edge ideas and technologies into the design professions, and to pursue innovative solutions to meet member partners’ common goals.” |
