Preparing for Sun-Earth Day Sun-Earth Day Events Kick Off The first event celebrating Sun-Earth Day 2005 will occur this month. The event, a webcast entitled Ancient Observatories-Timeless Knowledge, comes live from the NASA Exploratorium on Dec. 21 at 3 p.m. Eastern time. Join the Live@ crew and NASA scientists as they delve into the ancient knowledge of the Chacoans, daily sky watchers who amassed a great knowledge about the movements of the sun. Find out what they knew and how they used this knowledge to create sophisticated monuments to the sun. Today astronomers and solar physicists continue to watch the sun using modern ground-based observatories and orbiting space telescopes. Learn why this work is important and why solar research is still so vital. Sun-Earth Day is on March 21, 2005. Traditionally it occurs on or near the spring equinox. However, throughout the year there are many related events and activities such as webcasts and local happenings that highlight the current Sun-Earth Day theme. To access the webcast or find out more about Sun-Earth Day, visit the Sun-Earth Day web site. |
