Center Hosts Native Americans Tonight
CET Wed Sep 8 2004
Performances by Native Americans and displays
by artists and authors will highlight a celebration tonight marking
the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark expedition set for the
Center for Educational Technologies at Wheeling Jesuit University.
Native Americans Reuben and Ash Fast Horse of
the Hunkpapa Lakota nation will perform a cultural presentation as
part of a community outreach program entitled “When Two Worlds
Meet.” The program will feature singing, dancing, chanting, and
storytelling by the two Native Americans.
“When Two Worlds Meet” celebrates the 200th
anniversary of the Lewis and Clark expedition, which traveled
through Wheeling. Sponsored by the center’s Project InSTEP
(Integrating Strategies and Technology in Education Practice) and
Oglebay Institute, the event is set for 7 p.m. in the Center for
Educational Technologies’ Discovery Center.
Also part of the program are displays and
discussions by local artist Anne Foreman and local historical author
Alan Fitzpatrick. The pair will have their works on display and
answer questions.
Project InSTEP, which is part of the center,
seeks to improve the educational technology levels of West Virginia
teachers and has reached more than 8,000 West Virginia educators
since 2001.
