Researchers
The Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) program gathers data necessary for understanding the complex interrelationships within ecosystems and how those interrelationships change over extended periods of time. The LTER web site includes ecological data, satellite images, and other information used in the LTER program. Among the ecosystems under study is a forest in Oregon (H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest).

Researchers in Northern Temperate Rainforests
If you are interested in doing research on the forest ecology of the Northwest rainforests, there are several important researchers whose work you should know about:

Paul Alaback - studies old growth in southeastern Alaska, especially on Admiralty Island.

Robert Deal - studies forest-stand reconstruction.

Paul Hennon - studies the decline of the yellow cedar.

Jerry Franklin - studies temperate rainforests.
